Digital TV Upgrades
UK consumers may soon have access to more channels and services if Ofcom has its propositions approved. The proposals should provide more capacity within the network, thus allowing HDTV channels to operate on DTT. However, in order for Ofcoms proposal to be approved, the industry is going to have to accept two new standards.
MPEG4 and DVB-T2 are the two standards that will need to be embraced. The compression standard for MPEG4 is expected to by at least twice as efficient as the current standard of MPEG2. However, in order for consumers to take advantage of the new channels and services they will need to purchase a new set-top box that is compatible with the new standards.
For more information on the proposition, please visit Ofcom's website.
